DECEMBER 2017 SCHOLARSHIP FUND
SCHOLAR OF THE MONTH:
SALEH HASSEN
Our December Scholar of the Month is Mr. Saleh Hassen. Saleh, a 2017 T.C. Williams graduate, is currently completing his first semester at the prestigious Cornell Univ
ersity. Last year, the Scholarship Fund and its College Adviser Ms. Margaret Feldman worked with Saleh to help him navigate the college application and financial aid application process. Through these efforts, the Scholarship Fund helped Saleh access an impressive full-ride scholarship to Cornell.
This fall Saleh is hard at work at Cornell and is currently considering a major in Computer Science or Electrical and Computer Engineering. Outside of classes, Saleh is working on a project team, CUAUV, working with other engineers to design and build autonomous submarines and has joined a Food Recovery Network to redirect food waste to local food banks.
Saleh has reported back to the Scholarship Fund that “So far college life has been great for me. The work load and requirements can be stressful. But overall I have learned so much over the past few months and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future…”
We asked Saleh if he had some advice to share with the current members of the Junior and Senior Class at T.C. Williams who are finishing up college and financial aid applications or narrowing down the schools they will apply to next fall:
“It’s important to stay on top of everything when you can. Don’t let a deadline sneak up on you. When you have the opportunity, always ask upperclassmen for class materials like textbooks and practice exams. They are a great help.”
Best of luck, Saleh! The Scholarship Fund will always be in your corner!
