Sean Kumar is defined by his interest in politics and commitment to civic engagement. While a student at T.C. Williams, Sean served of the Alexandria Earth Day Committee and was selected by City Council to serve as student representative for the Alexandria Environmental Policy Commission.   He was a member of Key Club, the Debate Team and National Honor Society.

With the support of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, Sean matriculated at the University of Virginia where he majored in American Government and served as President of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He earned his law degree from the University of Richmond where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Richmond Journal of Law and Technology, a member of the Moot Court Board and Vice President of the student Bar Association.  He participated in a summer program in international law at the University of Cambridge and became a fellow in the Political Leaders Program at the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership.

Sean worked as a judicial law clerk for the Arlington County Circuit Court before joining the firm of Bean, Kinney & Korman, PC as an associate.  He represents individual and corporate clients in the areas of civil litigation, zoning, planning and land use.

Sean's passion is political activism.  While still in school he served as a summer intern in the offices of Virginia Delegate Brian Moran, U.S, Representative Tim Holden, and U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Sean was a volunteer for numerous campaigns including Governor Timothy Kaine (2005), Senator James Webb (2006), and President Barak Obama (2008).  In 2006, Sean served as campaign manger for the election of Rob Krupicka to Alexandria City Council. Since 2002, he has served on the campaign staff for Mayor Bill Euille, and is now Treasurer.

Sean rounds out his civic engagement as a member of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Transit Corporation that operates the DASH bus system and as Chairman of the Alexandria Transportation Commission.  On his legal profile for his firm's web site Sean proudly notes that he is a volunteer for The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria.
