Kate P. Moran has dedicated her life to the education of students
who have learning disabilities, mental challenges, and health
impairments. As an educator and a scholar, she has been involved in
constructing innovative ways of training today's special-needs youth to
become a successful part of society.
Currently, Kate works as the secondary-level special education
coordinator for T.C. Williams High School, Minnie Howard School, and
the Secondary Training and Education Program (STEP). In her role as
coordinator, she works with staff, parents, and students to ensure the
success and implementation of special education programming for
Alexandria City Public Schools.
Prior to obtaining her position with ACPS, Kate worked at Harper
Park Middle School where she created a behavior program that reduced
the suspension rate of the special education students in half. She
instructed students who qualified for services under the categories of
mental retardation, emotional disturbance, other health impairments,
and specialized in teaching students with autism.
Education has always been an important part of Kate's life. Not
only did she excel in the Alexandria school system and in her
undergraduate and graduate studies, she still seeks new ways to broaden
her knowledge and experience.
Kate believes strongly in the importance of investing in
education, both through The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria and through
her work as an educator. She strives for all persons to have access to
educational growth and development, La Pura Vida!
