In a recommendation one teacher wrote: "Karen Carrington is an
exceptional young woman. She is extremely bright, has tremendous
artistic talent, and cares deeply about her community and nation. Any
scholarship granted to her would be an investment in the future of Alexandria."
Following this teacher's recommendation, The Scholarship Fund and the
Alexandria community made an investment in Karen's education by
awarding her the TCW PTSA Scholarship. The community has earned a
substantial return on that investment.
Karen is a Class of 1989 graduate of T.C. Williams who received
her B.A. from Northwestern University and her law degree from George
Washington University. She serves her country as an attorney for the
U.S. Department of Agriculture. While a student at T.C. Williams she
was active in Project Discovery, an organization that encourages
college enrollment for students who are first in their families to
attend. Today, Karen serves as Chairman of the Board for Project
Discovery.
Karen is also an active member of the Mount Vernon Branch of the
American Association of University Women and regularly finds time to
tutor young students at the Alexandria Black History Resource Center.
She is the proud parent of Miles, who is in the seventh grade.
The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is pleased to honor Karen Carrington as a Portrait of Success.
