Planning/Timeline

December 2009

To apply for scholarships that require demonstration of financial need, go to www.FAFSA.Ed.Gov and apply for a PIN number. Start collecting your income and tax documents required to submit the FAFSA.Note: Both student and parent need to apply for a PIN number.

Draft a Personal Statement (about 350 words) and resume.What would you like a scholarship donor to know about you? Don't forget to submit your college applications!

December 15, 2009  - 7:30 pm - T.C. Williams:  Attend Workshop on Filling out the Financial Aid Form (FAFSA).  Check with the Scholarship Fund (703-824-6730) for a specific date.

January 2010

Request two letters of recommendation from teachers, employers, guidance counselors or other members of the community.  If you are asking a teacher or guidance counselor, please request no later than January 29. Give them a copy of your resume to assist their memory.  Two letters of recommendation must be submitted with the application no later than February 12, 2010.

January/February - 8 am to noon - T.C. Williams:  Drop in on FAFSA Super Saturday and start filling out FAFSA online.  Scholarship Fund staff and College Guide will help you get started.  Be sure to bring as many of the following as possible:

*  Social Security numbers of parents and student, or green card information

*  Income tax information for parents and student, including W-2s

*  Savings and checking account information for parents and student

*  Investment account information for parents and student

*  Parents' birthdates and date of marriage or divorce

January - February, 2010

Go to www.AlexScholarshipFund.organd complete the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria 2010 Application. Print the signature page and sign it (also requires parental signatures).  Scholarship Fund staff and volunteers will be available in January to help you with this process.
If you wish to be considered for scholarships based on financial need as well as merit, submit the FAFSA online at www.FAFSA.ED.Gov.  A copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) or the FAFSA must accompany your Scholarship application if you wish to be considered for need-based awards. Scholarship Fund staff and volunteers will be available in January to help you with this process.

February 12, 2010 DEADLINE: 5:00 p.m. Submit application and personal statement (online). Submit copy of all required attachments: 1.) signature page, 2.) two letters of recommendation, 3.) a resume, and 4.) SAR (for need based applicants).
April 2010 Students will be notified no later than April 30, 2010, whether they have received a scholarship.
June 9, 2010 Scholarship Fund Awards Program. All recipients must attend to receive their awards!
