Courtesy Jack Taylor announces his support of The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria's 21st Anniversary Gala, April 14. Jack Taylor's Alexandria Toyota will match up to $100,000 for new Gala funds raised. |
Jack Taylor's Alexandria Toyota will match up to $100,000 of any new money contributed to The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria's upcoming Gala. Taylor made the announcement Wednesday morning to an audience of local government officials, school representatives and community members assembled at his dealership.
"You can't change the world, but I do think you can impact your community," Taylor said of his decision to offer the challenge gift. "I want to give away this whole $100,000."
Established in 1986, the Scholarship Fund seeks to ensure that all academically qualified T.C. Williams High School seniors have access to financial resources so that they can attend college, vocational or technical school upon graduation. Since 1986, the Fund has awarded more than $4 million in scholarships to more than 2,500 Alexandria students as they pursue their post secondary educational dreams.
"I don't know of a better way of impacting your community than working for The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria," Taylor said. "As long as there is a child in Alexandria who wants to go to school and has the grades to go to school but does not have the money, my company will always be a player."
Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, who introduced Taylor as a long-time friend who exemplifies the phrase "action speaks louder than words," said that he is committed to raising $50,000 in funds for Taylor to match. Gala Co-chairs Stephanie Clayton and Cathy Puskar announced that the SFA already has received $26,500 in new, matchable funds.
During the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, the Fund awarded more than $295,000 in aid to 221 members of the T.C. Williams Class of 2006 and $230,000 to 177 former award recipients still in school and demonstrating need of financial assistance.
The SFA's 21st Anniversary Gala will be held at the Hilton Mark Center, 5000 Seminary Road, Alexandria, on April 14. For information about the Gala Honor Roll and tickets, visit the SFA's Web site at www.AlexScholarshipFund.org or call 703-824-6730.
