The mission of The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA), through its relationships within the community, is to encourage and assist the students of the Alexandria City Public Schools by providing them with the necessary resources to pursue a college or post- secondary education.

A message from our 2009-2010 Chair, Board of Trustees

The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is a success story shared by the entire Alexandria community.  It is an example of the amazing things we can do when we work together.

Twenty three years ago, the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA) was created to ensure that seniors graduating from the Alexandria Public Schools who had the grades to continue their studies and the desire to attend college would have the financial resources available to make that dream come true.

Over the years, SFA has helped more than 3100 TC Williams students pay for higher education with more than $6 million in scholarship awards.  Recently, the TC Class of 2009 was awarded more than $360,000 in first year scholarships of which 86% went to students with demonstrated financial need and 72% to minority students.  Scholarships were awarded to those attending college and universities as well as technical and trade schools.  For many of these scholarship recipients, SFA awards close the gap between available financial aid and the total cost of post-secondary education translating an opportunity into a reality. 

The work of SFA would not be possible without the tremendous efforts of SFA staff, committed volunteers and a generous business community.  We appreciate those individuals who support the Fall Telethon, attend the SFA Gala, purchase a raffle ticket or volunteer their time.  We also know that the reach of our efforts is greatly expanded by the generous support of our Corporate Partners, and we want to thank those leaders in the Alexandria business community who provide a strong financial commitment to SFA.
