The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, 2007 Award Recipients

The mission of The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA), through its relationships within the community, is to encourage and assist the students of the Alexandria City Public Schools by providing them with the necessary resources to pursue a college or post- secondary education.

A message from our 2008-2009 Chair, Board of Trustees

The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is an extension of our community’s commitment to the success of our young people.  As a community, we value our young people, and strive to give each of them the best opportunity for the brightest future.

We show our commitment to their success by supporting our public schools; schools that are dedicated to educating all students to prepare them to succeed.

We show our commitment to their success by supporting our award-winning T.C. Williams High School, with its cutting edge design, and its fully accredited educational program.

But every year, hundreds of T.C. Williams High School Seniors face graduation with the desire to go to college, and the grades to go to college, but without enough money to go to college.

That’s where the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria comes in.  The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria has helped send more than 2900 students to college over the past 22 years with more than $5.5 million in scholarships.  Our scholarships provide much needed funding to bridge the gap between the financial aid available and the total cost of college.  We support all our students in their post-secondary achievements, not only those who go on to traditional academic colleges and universities, but also students who want to attend trade schools and other vocational programs.

Our Portraits of Success are filled with stories of bright young people who made the most of the chance we gave them, and are now living their dreams of achievement.  More than 90% of T.C. Williams graduates go on to post-secondary education.  This is impressive by itself, but even more impressive considering that at least half of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch.  That success is the mark of a supportive community.

Our students are living up to our commitment to their success.  Let’s make sure their success stories continue.  Supporting the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is one of the best things you can do to help our community.  There are many opportunities to help, through corporate sponsorships as well as through our Telethon and Spring Gala.  We are grateful for your support at all levels, from the single Telethon pledge up to the largest corporate partner.   Support the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria and help us be there for all the Seniors who want to go to college.  Let’s line the hallways with portraits of success.
